It is one of the two medieval bridges in Limoges (with Saint-Martial bridge), the only bridges to span the River Vienne until the construction of Pont-Neuf bridge (1838). Launched at the very beginning of the 13th century, it was modified several times. Equipped with cutwaters and 130 metres long, it was protected until the 19th century by a “ramier”, large timber comb used to retain the drifted rafts going down the mountain to supply the porcelain factories and the carpenters’ workshops.
