Slowly, as if dazed by sleep,
the Meuse River flows, smoothly, caressed
by small yellow rays of sunlight that struggle to pierce
the blueish mist. On the bank, Quai de la Goffe deploys its full range
of colours, its lifeblood, where large baskets of fruit seem to exude a smell
of the dew-soaked countryside.
[Georges Simenon, Lettres à une petite bourgeoise].
