Description

Start from the Tourist Office of Bourg.

After you left the office, pass in front of the church “Saint Géronce”, and climb up the street “Général Peychaud”. Tunr on the left road “route de Cambes”, and follow it until the stop sign. Be carefull of traffic.

Turn left, ride down to the “Corniche” road. Pass in front of the old wine cellar « Brouette ». After the climb, turn right to "Château Les Rocques". Continue on this road then turn left on the road of the “Marchais Nord”, going to the town hall of St Seurin de Bourg.

Tunr right to the Château de Côts, and then turn left on the D113e7. At the intersection, you can choose to go at Château Falfas or go on the right and immediately on the left on the D133 to Comps.

Continue on this road until St Ciers de Canesse. Arrived at the church Saint-Jean, you can go at the Château La Graulet (300 meters away) in taking the right or continue the road on the D133 until the crossroad of Cheval blanc.

Turn left to Villeneuve. Be careful while crossing. Go down to the harbor of Roque de Thau. You can discover the Windows onto the estuary which is a pier over the water.

Continue on the Corniche road, straight ahead, and pass by the Windows of the estuary at « Furt » (with the shipwreck) and « Vitescale » (rocks). Continue on the Corniche road. After the coast of « La Reuille », turn right and make step at the church “Notre-Dame de Bayon”.

Continue on the Corniche road to the Château Eyquem and the Window of the Estuary. Follow this road until the “Pain de sucre”, then turn right after the old wine cellar Brouette. Afterward, take the same road you take to come but in the other way to the Tourist Office.

Tourist Office

The Tourist Office of Bourg is labeled for "Tourism and handicap" since 2009, and had a renewal for its national brand "Quality tourism" in 2014. The welcoming agent are there to help you book or simply to advise you, there is also a boutique for souvenirs made by the local artists and craftsman.

St Géronce Church of Bourg

The St Géronce church has been build into a neogothiq style and inaugurated on 1858 the 25th of November. Because they lacked some place, its chevet has been oriented toward the south, contrary to what the liturgy expects. The organ, which still has its original building, that's to say the one of 1861, in incredible.

St Seurin's Church

This church from the XIth century was rebuilt in 1860 and still have a set of lamps which lit it during the Napoleon the 3rd times. Two paintings, one of God and the other representing Jean Baptist in the desert, can be found in the sacristy. Concerning the high altar, it is decorated with enamels with geometrical patterns.

Church of Comps

The first Comps’ church was Romanesque. However, after multiples transformations during the XIX, the polygonal apse and the unique nave are the only part of the church which are still Romanesque. The square steeple is neoclassical and is now used as a closed porch. This monument contains an pulpit in wood ornate of doves and represent the Holy Spirit and the four polychrome evangelists, and a way of the cross painted on wood.

La Grolet Château

La Grolet Château is an old manor from the 12th and 13th Century. The Château has been rebuilt after the french revolution and transformed several time during the 19th century. But one of the old part of the château remained intact.

St Ciers de Canesse Church

The oldest part of this church is the front which is supporting a portal dating from the Renaissance time. The rose was set up in 1865, the two aisles are ribbed vaulted so as the church body is. The Saint Joseph altar is made of wood with ornemental apertures.

Churh of Villeneuve

The actual holy water font of this church, which used to be a capitol of marble, was classified Historical Monument in 1908. The bell is from 1491 and is the oldest of the arrondissement. Inside the building, it can be found a Way of the Cross made of enamel, two wood statues representing St Laurent and St Vincent (end of the XVIIth century) and in the sacristy, golden metal monstrance offered by Napoleon the 3rd in 1862.

WINE INFORMATION CENTER

La Maison des Vins de Bourg, situated on the threshold of the old town facing the estuary, has a dual role: to welcome the general public and to serve as a veritable centre for the range of activities undertaken by the producers (SVCB) of this famous appellation. Products scratched "Côtes de Bourg" are in the underground cellar which offers a wide choice of wines. It is the unconditional passage of the wine lovers! The Wine Information Center welcomes you all year round: visit of the cellar and free tasting. In summer, every weekend, a wine grower presents his products and explain his job. Advises, information, documentations on wines and properties are available. Possibility of booking an appointment to visit properties.

Château Mercier

Close to the Citadel of Bourg, Château Mercier is a 25 hectare vineyard and a property of Chéty's family for thirteen generations. Philippe and Martine welcome you with their children, Isabelle and Christophe, in front of their house who has also two guest houses and a holiday cottage. Faithful to the tradition and to the savoir-faire heritate from their predecessors, the Chéty's family made for their vineyard the choice of the integrated farm management. In the vineyards where they invite you to follow them, note the presence of a small meteorological station and a machine to count the insects. The various stages of the traditional wine making are explained to you in the wine storehouse. In the tasting room, find out produces "Bienvenue à la ferme" and produces cooked by the family such as marmelade, juice and salt infused into wine.
